The Only 3 Spots you should Lubricate a Garage Door

The last thing that you want after a hectic and stressful day at work is to have your residential garage door scream at you when you get home. However, this does not have to be the case. Note that a garage door needs to be adequately maintained so that it does not become loud and squeaky.

And whether the garage door opens manually or through an electric door opener, it has metal parts that you have to oil or lubricate occasionally to keep it functioning well. And the noise of your garage door could be a sign that it is not properly greased, and this may result in even serious damages to your garage door in the future. This is why you have to lubricate your garage door to make sure it is working smoothly.

Most garage doors squeak when they need lubrication. In most cases, annual lubrication of the moving parts is enough to keep your garage door in excellent shape.
Here is what you need to lubricate to keep your garage door working properly.

Hinges

You have to lubricate the hinges of the garage door at their pivot points. However, keep in mind that you only have to do this for metal hinges. Do not mess with the plastic hinges as they don’t need lubrication.
In fact, avoid applying anything to any plastic parts. Some lubricants can even cause the plastic to degrade or break down over time.

Rollers

The rollers on the garage door are circular moving pieces, and they are attached to each of the door hinges. Inside the rollers are ball bearings that you have to lubricate for smooth opening and closing of your garage door.
Note that metal rollers are how the garage doors travel up and down. And if the rollers have nylon wheels, make sure you lubricate the rollers without getting any grease or lubricant on the nylon material.

Springs

You have to locate the torsion springs that help lift and lower the garage door. Keep in mind that this is one of the essential parts of a garage door that needs lubrication. This is because lubricating the springs properly can increase their efficiency and their lifespan. You just have to apply enough lubricant to make them move more smoothly.
